[There's a stretch of silence from him after that. Fifteen seconds at most, the background noise of cars quietly going by filling up where neither voice nor breath are yet ready to tread. If only because, when he finally speaks up, strained and quiet and hoarse and confused:]

[That's all hope and it comes through in his voice. He could have been dropped off in God knows where.]

[The road noise grows louder, closer.]

No, no. [Quiet, like he has trouble accepting it himself. The other times, yeah, okay, the Porter is a bitch. But this third time is not the same, even if it falls under a similar umbrella.] Wasn't. Gone. I was taken.

[At least with the Porter, it could happen to anyone at any time. She didn't pick and choose because someone in their social circle pissed her off. She didn't keep them captive, torture, and kill them. On someone else, that last bit may sound like nothing more than wounded pride, kicked ego. But for Will, to even get on that rung, it's gotta be something not good at all.]

[aggressiveapathy]

[Can you hear a heart skip a beat over the phone, Will? Now would be the time to learn as April comes to a sudden dead stop her worry-anger pacing.]

Hold on, there's a sign.

[Cue the sound of that half-jog/half-run thing people do when there's not too far to go but far enough a quick walk won't do the trick. When that stops, there's a relieved sigh and a short, cracked, happy laugh.]

Walking into Maurtia Falls as we speak. Do you...meet at the Porter back in Heropa?

[ She would clearly prefer to just sprint all the way, but god. That makes more sense. ]
